A locksmith in the UK is now a local legend after he was caught on camera saving the day during a zombie apocalypse.
Army of Thieves is a movie about a group of people who are trying to steal money from the bank, but they get caught by the police. They decide that they have nothing to lose and break into the bank again, but this time with guns. The first scene shows them breaking into the bank, which causes their plan to backfire.
Army of Thieves, Zack Synder’s upcoming prequel to Army of the Dead, has gotten a new poster. MatthiasSchweighöfer, the actor and director, is the centerpiece of the poster. Schweighöfer also plays the main part in the film, repeating his role as Ludwig Dieter, the locksmith from Army of the Dead. “Before Vegas, one locksmith became a legend,” says the slogan on the poster.
Army of Thieves is not a brand-new idea in and of itself. Dieter is in the early stages of his safecracking profession six years before the events of Army of the Dead. Dieter is recruited to carry out a robbery by an unknown employer. Of course, no heist film would be complete without a mishmash of co-conspirators, and Army of Thieves is no exception.

Ruby O. Fee plays Korina, the “master hacker,” alongside Schweighöfer’s Dieter. Rolph, the group’s getaway driver, will be played by Guz Khan (known for his work on the comedy show Man Like Mobeen and his stand-up appearances on Live at the Apollo). Brad Cage, portrayed by Scottish actor Stuart Martin, is the group’s muscle. Martin is well recognized for his performances in British television, most notably as Detective Inspector William Wellington in Miss Scarlet and The Duke. Gwendoline is played by Nathalie Emmanuel, who completes the cast.
Just over a week ago, Netflix published a full-length trailer for Army of Thieves. Despite Dieter’s protestations that he is not a criminal, the trailer depicts Schweighöfer’s character Dieter winning a safecracking contest and impressing Emmanuel’s Gwendoline sufficiently for her to want to employ him for her job. Dieter is tasked with opening three separate safes, all of which belong to “infamous” millionaire Bly Tanaka – another character from Army of the Dead who is portrayed by Hiroyuki Sanada.
In May 2021, producer Deborah Snyder characterized Army of Thieves as a film in the vein of The Italian Job, but set in a future where zombies also exist:
“[It] takes place in a world where zombies have taken over America and are creating financial turmoil. They’re moving money around, so it’s the ideal time for a robbery.”
Army of Thieves is not definitively a zombie film, according to Schweighöfer. At the very least, the trailer acknowledges the presence of zombies (in a blink-and-you-miss-it flash of news footage). There will be zombies in the film, according to Zack Snyder. It remains to be seen if this will be simply in the background or have a direct effect on the narrative.
Zack Snyder has also revealed that an official Army of the Dead sequel is in the works. In addition, Netflix intends to broadcast an animated prequel/tie-in titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas in the Spring of 2022. There is still plenty of time for the totally uninformed to catch up. Army of the Dead is already accessible on Netflix, and Army of Thieves will be released on October 29th, just in time for Halloween.
