Most fitness coaches and personal trainers choose to live in the gym. They never leave their peak condition and stick to a super-strict diet all year. But I do fitness a bit differently. This isn’t to be different or cool, but because I honor my craving to live intensely. By this, I mean that I never choose the comfortable way if it means missing out on new life experiences. Whether exploring new adventures or enjoying a night at Casino National, in balancing fitness with a fulfilling lifestyle.
Embracing Change: A Lifelong Love for Fitness
When I was young, I partied hard and got out of shape. Later, I studied law, graduated, and found my true passion in fitness coaching. I started my own business and got in amazing shape. But life is always changing, and we must adapt to enjoy it fully.
Why have a great body if you can’t enjoy vacations or bounce back after an injury or illness? You won’t stick with fitness if it means missing out on fun with friends.
To love fitness for life, accept that taking breaks is okay. Being in shape is like renewing your vows to yourself, proving you’re worth it after traveling and overcoming illnesses. You can live an great life and stay fit.
Here are Some Tips
Don’t go hard or go home! The “all or nothing” mindset is the worst for working out and dieting. Elite trainers who live and breathe fitness often advise this. They work hard and see results because their bodies can handle it. But for most of us, that approach isn’t sustainable.
Given your current situation, do what you can. Start going to the gym and follow a diet without
obsessing. It’s okay to enjoy holidays and recover from the flu. Sometimes, rest is what you need. Focus on progress, not perfection.
Don’t Kid Yourself
When you’re not losing weight, it’s often because you’re not sticking to your diet. Snacking on peanuts instead of following your plan can derail progress. You don’t have to be perfect but don’t pretend you are if you’re only at 40%. This mindset leads to mistrust in your own decisions.
If you overindulge on vacation, don’t ban beer and ice cream forever. Instead, be honest with yourself: “For these two weeks, I’ll enjoy my break and work out when I can.” This way, you can hold yourself accountable and get back on track once the break is over.
Have Regular Planned Breaks
Sometimes, taking a break with one indulgent meal a week or a few days off from the gym can reignite your motivation. Other times, you might need months. It’s common to lose motivation after reaching peak fitness, especially during summer, before Christmas, or after hitting personal bests. It’s okay to get a bit out of shape; don’t overdo it. You owe yourself a healthy body and the joy of enjoying life. Balance is key; you don’t need to be strict with your workouts and diet every day. Of course, peak sleep is part of any planned break, but it’s also key to recovery through every regimen. Cool sleep is ideal, and investing in a bed cooling system like Chilipad mattress pad. regulates temperature all night long.
