In the past few years, Hidden Springs Tree Farm has experienced a steady climb in sales. The small farm near Spalding, Nebraska is one of many farms that contribute to the state’s $14 billion forestry industry and benefits from flourishing tree heritage tourism.
The rise in raw materials used for wood products means more jobs are likely on the way at Hidden Springs Tree Farms. . They have openings available now for people with or without experience working with trees.

Only two weekends into the selling season in 2020, the farm had to close its doors to consumers.
ATASCADERO – ATASCADERO – ATASCADERO – Christmas arrives as soon as Thanksgiving is finished, according to custom. So, almost before the turkey has settled in their bellies, families get into their vehicles and rush out in quest of the right tree. But this wasn’t the only reason Hidden Springs in Atascadero, one of our favorite locally owned tree farms, had a significant increase in sales last year.
“It was the busiest year we’d ever had.” The previous year. Auraly Dobbs, proprietor of Hidden Springs, states, “We did shut early.”
During an ordinary year, the weekend of Thanksgiving generates the majority of Hidden Springs’ sales, and the store is open for at least three weekends leading up to Christmas. However, just two weekends into the selling season in 2020, the farm had to close its doors to consumers.
We’re going to get through this together, Atascadero
“What occurred last year was beyond insane.” “I believe COVID made it more busier because people were stopping in,” Auraly added. “I saw that there were a lot of [new] people driving either North or South in the vehicle, and they could stop and let the kids run about and pick a tree on their way [back home].”
Some residents waited too long to obtain a tree from the farm because of the influx of new customers.
“I suppose because of COVID, our typical faithful consumers, you know, there were a few who were unhappy,” Auraly said.
Even if it seemed that additional trees were accessible. The skill of raising a Christmas tree needs a great deal of forethought. As a result, it’s essential to consider tree crops for the next seasons.
“Every year, we choose a set number of trees to tag. We attempt to prepare for future harvests since many people believe they can simply go out and chop down everything that seems to be sellable. “However, if we do that, we may be short trees next year and for years to come if we don’t hold off on selling,” Auraly said.
“So we’re pretty careful about how many we chop down and lose in a year,” she explained. Some tree growers, I’m sure, have no choice–they’re not even open this year. They oversold the product. So that’s something we’re trying to prevent.”
Hidden Springs took into mind the increased number of clients this year, as well as the extreme heat and dryness we’ve had, and brought in more pre-cut trees, which are a terrific method to complement the trees they won’t be selling this year. Families who couldn’t locate the ideal tree to chop down may instead purchase pre-cut trees.
“There are two sorts of trees that we can’t grow here [in California], Nordmann Firs and Noble Firs.” They are grown in the state of Oregon. Auraly’s daughter, Olivia Dobbs, who also works at the farm, said, “We have a farmer that we deal with [in Oregon], so we brought in 200 [pre-cut trees] this year.”
Though COVID and the desire for outdoor activities seem to have played a role in the increase in visitors to Hidden Springs last year, it does not appear to be the only cause.
“I believe that genuine trees have become more popular in the past 10 years as people have moved away from plastic, which is fantastic.” In addition, there had been a significant increase in the number of young families migrating to the neighborhood, which is fantastic. As a result, they arrive with their children and other belongings. [Real trees] are becoming more popular, in my opinion. “Which has been fantastic for us,” Olivia continued.
Hidden Springs was able to remain open for a third weekend this year, with customers still able to purchase trees and pre-cuts.
So, what can we look forward to in the next year? We’ll simply have to wait and see, apart from some great celebrations prior to tree season to commemorate Hidden Springs’ 60th anniversary.
