Studs & Duds So Far

Looking back at the first year of cryptocurrency, which cryptocurrencies have seen success? This article highlights some high-profile coins that are still rocking it.

So far, the NFL has been a mixed bag. Some teams have looked great while others have not lived up to expectations. There are some studs and duds that have emerged so far in the 2018 season.

There have been plenty of players who have surpassed their expectations throughout the 2021 fantasy football season, as well as individuals who have fallen short of their predictions. Hopefully, you were able to roll with the punches for your team(s) and didn’t have too many underachievers on your squad (s).

The NFL is a game of chance, and fantasy football is no different – here are some highlights from the first half of this year’s NFL season for fantasy football reasons.

Studs

D’Andre Swift — RB9 (137 carries, 704 yards, 5 touchdowns)

D’Andre Swift has been one of the few bright lights for the Detroit Lions, advancing to the starting running back job he was chosen for back in 2020. Swift was charged with striking a healthy balance with Jamaal Williams for the Lions after his first season, in which he shared time with Adrian Peterson. He has done so fast.

To begin the season, it seemed like he and Williams, the former Green Bay Packers backup running back, would be dividing time equally, placing an unpleasant restriction on Swift’s fantasy usefulness. Swift, on the other hand, has dominated the job, leading the club in carries (90), running yards (289), and rushing touchdowns (four) (3).

Swift is also second on the team in receiving yards (415), targets (57), and catches (47), and he leads the team with 137 total touches (90 carries, 47 receptions). Swift will continue to handle the bulk of touches in this inept offense that is constantly playing from behind as Detroit tries to grab its first victory of the season.

RB2 Jonathan Taylor 163 total touches for 1,114 yards and nine touchdowns

Even with the sort of output Jonathan Taylor has put up in his second season, the Indianapolis Colts have failed to take advantage of one of the league’s poorest divisions this year.

Taylor, a former Wisconsin Badger who leads the club in all major running statistics, has also shown to be a capable receiver, with just under 300 receiving yards this season. Taylor has helped bring consistency with Carson Wentz, who has put up a great season in his debut year with the Colts, and is now the RB2 on the season.

Taylor should continue to be a fantasy football superstar, since three of Indianapolis’ final games are against Jacksonville and Houston.

WR1 Cooper Kupp 74 catches for 1,019 yards and ten touchdowns

Cooper Kupp has already surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and ten receiving touchdowns, indicating the sort of milestones he may set this season — and having Matthew Stafford give him the ball is undoubtedly a significant reason for that.

The former Eastern Washington wideout has succeeded in his sixth NFL season, despite the Los Angeles Rams’ backing for two fantasy-relevant WRs in Kupp and Robert Woods. Kupp has been such a great WR1 in fantasy football this season that he has 50 more points than the WR2 on the team, Tyreek Hill.

The Rams seem to be one of the league’s greatest Super Bowl hopefuls, and Kupp will be the key to their success if he stays healthy.

Duds

Trevor Lawrence is the 26th quarterback in the NFL. 1,821 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a 35.8 passer rating

The Jacksonville Jaguars, who had Trevor Lawrence as their best fantasy football rookie quarterback entering into the season, have had a difficult learning curve with him at the helm. Lawrence joined a farce of an offense as the number one overall pick, and with head coach Urban Meyer generating more off-field headlines than on, Lawrence’s difficulties have been well chronicled.

Lawrence’s performance this season has lagged behind that of Jared Goff and Jimmy Garoppolo in terms of fantasy football productivity, but it isn’t all his fault. DJ Chark and James Robinson have both lost time due to injuries in his supporting cast (Chark is out for the season).

While playing from behind increases his chances of scoring fantasy points, Lawrence has failed to avoid forcing things down the field. Lawrence will continue to struggle as long as the Jaguars continue to turn forth one of the league’s poorest on-field goods on a weekly basis.

Lawrence is much too polished of a talent to be written off this early in his career, even if his rookie season has been a challenge – his second season should be a lot more rewarding for fantasy football lineups.

RB36 Mike Davis 108 total touches for 386 yards and two touchdowns

Please stand up, everyone of the Mike Davis truthers from the preseason – it’s safe to predict that given how much he’s struggled in 2021, not many people will be prepared to confess that.

Even with the calves Davis shown throughout preseason and training camp, it wasn’t a certain conclusion that he’d be able to capitalize on his first starting chance. In 2020, he most recently backed up Christian McCaffrey, and he put up good stats in relief of the injured superstar, bolstering his future worth.

Instead of turning it into a full-time job, Davis wasted the opportunity, allowing Atlanta’s spark plug Cordarelle Patterson to leapfrog him in terms of role and fantasy football relevance. Davis’ season has been marked by being poorer than one running back from each club, plus a few others.

WR53 Allen Robinson 30 catches for 339 yards and one touchdown

How the great have fallen – or, at the very least, how ineffectively the Chicago Bears have used Allen Robinson.

Robinson has had one of the league’s biggest falls from grace in a long time, adding another more step to the incompetency ladder that Matt Nagy so eloquently stands on. With Robinson and Darnell Mooney at his disposal, rookie quarterback Justin Fields has attempted to reintegrate Robinson into the scheme as best he can, but the veteran just cannot fit back into the offense that made him a fantasy football favorite.

Robinson has had five or more targets in five of the Bears’ nine games this season, demonstrating the team’s highly erratic target distribution. While Fields’ growing pains are undoubtedly a factor, the offensive coaching staff should take the majority of the blame, as they could have plainly sought to integrate Robinson back into the scheme earlier in the season.

Robinson’s role was expected to rise this season in many fantasy football lineups, particularly when he returned to Chicago this summer. Unfortunately, he has caused one of the largest drops in fantasy football productivity, a problem that does not seem to be going away anytime soon.
